My thoughts

Best time to become a developer

September 8, 2016

If you have passion for development, this is probably the best time to be a developer. You are able to start with very little or no money. To get a very nice editor like Sublime Text will cost you absolutely nothing, you will have to put up with an occasional pop-up but it’s not intrusive. If you are a student, you are able to get Adobe software at a very, very low cost. You can pick up Adobe Creative Cloud for Students & Teachers for only $19.99 a month; for what is included in the price that is a complete steal. Now that we have covered the basic tools such as code editor and graphic end of things you are able to start learning.

Ease yourself into the process start with a simple things such as HTML. This is a static language that website are built on. HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. Start slow and check your code / progress as you go. If you are now wondering “Well where do I learn the HTML? I am new I don’t know where to go.” Well, you can start with a good free tutorial website There is many topics and categories but you should go under WebDesign >> HTML. Find a beginners tutorial for HTML and follow along. If you have little money to spend I would suggest a website like, you can start for as low as $25 a month. You can check your code on, to be more specific you can go here and upload your HTML file.

As you learn, you will encounter problems that you need to solve or that may have been over looked in the tutorials. In these cases Google is your friend. Even better open a account. This community is huge and most of the time you can get an answer within minutes.

Next step from there would be learn some styles for your amazing HTML page. Style comes in a form of a CSS, which is short for Cascading Style Sheets. This is a current standard way to style your website / page.

This is just a start to your journey. As you learn more, next step would be to learn about back-end programming and databases. There are many back-end languages and picking the best is not something you should do, however it is also not something you should shy away from. Like I said, there are many languages but the concept behind them is the same, function is a function that does something; a class is an object. As long as you wrap your head around what these things are you are good to go, it will take years to become a master at this but you don’t need to be a master to start or to be paid for what you do.

The thing is most companies still ask for and look for education aspect of things, however if you are good at what you do and you can back it up with some examples, all this will be over looked. So if you have a passion for or interest to become a developer, there is no better time. You can start with no or very little money by following the steps above. Sky is the limit here so get at it and be great.
